Hello again all
Does anyone know what the situation surrounding imported medications is in the UK? I'm not talking about controlled substances, just ADs etc that aren't approved over here. Specifically, I mean the selegiline patch, seeing as it looks like US will get it before the UK.
A couple of q's:
- Would it be possible to get a prescription from my doc and then order it from abroad?
- Would it be legal to import something like EmSam *without* a prescription? Thanks very much guys :D

Hello J,
I am not an expert in pharmacy law by any stretch of the imagination but I'll still attempt to answer your question!!
>Would it be legal to import something like EmSam *without* a prescription?
Selegiline is a prescription-only medicine (POM). Possession of a POM without a prescription is illegal. This is covered under the UK Medicines Act 1968.

I think that this would be possible if your doctor was willing. Unlicensed drugs (ie. not 'approved by the MHRA) are used by hospital consultants in the UK. This is not illegal. If EMSAM was available abroad, you would need to ask the Pharmacy to order it for you. It wouldn't be legal for you to order it yourself.

Cheer Ed. That's given me a bit of hope, I hope when it arrives in the US (next few months? fingers crossed) I will be able to persuade my doctor its worth going to the trouble of trialing it out.

You might be happy and confident and not need it!

Yes that would be nice! My hope would be that it could replace nardil's effects but without the dietary/weight/etc stuff. Now that would do me nicely.
I'm getting a bit ahead of myself though... better concentrate on nardil for the time being hey?
