Tardive tourettism

Posted by lostforwards on December 16, 2004, at 19:15:16

There's not much on this online. I found it interesting.

"Tardive tourettism resembles Tourette syndrome and presents during or after treatment with dopamine antagonists. Typically, tardive tourettism begins in individuals older than 21 years, while Tourette syndrome commonly presents by age 7 years. This condition is characterized by frequent, multiple motor and vocal tics, echolalia, echopraxia, coprolalia, and copropraxia. Tics may be suppressed temporarily while inner tension builds; this inner tension is relieved by an explosion of tics. Tardive tourettism may occur with other TDs"

Hi,

Did you see the examples of drug-induced stereotypies..... BTW, I'm not sure you need to see another neurologist, I think that you've effectively diagnosed yourself. I think you need to educate your pdoc about the tardive dyskinesias.

You mentioned crossing your legs, eyebrow arching, spinning things etc. Which other stereotypies do you have? Do you have some which are not on the list?

Eyebrows moving
Eye blinking
Staring
Flared nostrils
Mouth twitching
Lip puckering
Biting
Chewing (including tongue and cheek)
Bonbon sign
Mouth opening
Teeth grinding
Tongue in and out
Tongue, sustained protruding
Putting fingers to lips
Putting other objects to lips
