Hello,
The reason I'm asking is because I tried 10s of AD's and all caused weight gain + I heared that clean NA medications are good for motivation and concentration without weight gain (Maporotiline,Nortriptyline and desipramine cause weight gain and not so great for motivation,maybe a little concentration..I tried them all)
- I tried Reboxetine and it gave me SEVERE depression and horrible mood..anyone have experience with this med to share?
- Never tried Atomoxetine..anyone?? especially no weight gain/motivation/ concentration issues?
Only other AD,s that did not cause WG but had intolerable SE were Bupropion and Milnacipran..

> Adam.Strattera seems to work a little differently than desipramine, even though their effects should theoretically be pretty similar. I found desipramine to be fairly energizing, while causing some insomnia, particularly at first. Stattera also gave me insomnia but was noticeably sedating compared to desipramine, so much so that I dropped it after a week (I do believe the susceptibility to this side effect varies widely from patient to patient).
I believe desipramine slowed down my metabolism, perhaps due to the tricyclic histamine blockade, but the very strong noradrenergic effects meanwhile killed my appetite to such an extent that I actually lost several pounds while on it, and I was not overweight to begin with. I do also exercise regularly. Typically, more dopaminergic medications, such as the stimulants, tend to be quite good for losing weight or at least avoiding weight gain. The most similar antidepressant to Wellbutrin in terms of dopaminergic effects is Parnate, which I take and have found to be relatively weight neutral. I have much more appetite on it than I did on desipramine, but the Parnate may actually be speeding up my metabolism--I really am not sure.

Thank you for the useful info.Unfortunatly desipramine is not available where I live.I took it years ago with prozac but did not do much maybe because of fluoxetine.I tried Parnate and did not like it(at 60mg)it did not increase my motivation,but it did increase my weight and made me rude.
All stims I tried(Ritalin,selegiline at 5mg,pemoline,ditheylpropion,fenproporex..etc) gave good reults in the first few days but then nothing except apathy and dysphoria.
I thought Rebox would be the answer from the great "scientific" research about it causing motivation,sociabilirty,concentration...but it gave me the exact opposite:withdrawal,feeling blue,extreme sadness it was a depression pill.
I was wondering if atomoxetine gave you all NA goodies with the sedation you mentioned,and no weight gain/appetite stimulation??

Hi Adam,
I wrote a little message to you above, in respone to what you wrote about the akathisia from Stelazine.
Anyway, I think atomoxetine might be sedating because its metabolite is a kappa opioid agonist. This might also explain why it often seems to cause dysphoria.
