Mysterious Flushing

Posted by malakha on December 2, 2004, at 18:51:40

If anyone with any expertise can comment on this, I'd appreciate it. I'm at wit's end searching for an answer.

One year ago, I developed flushing, not just face and upper chest, but my entire body, much like the pink of a very light sun burn. It burns from the warmth at times, and at the time I was taking Welbutrin and Effexor, which made it worse. Came off of them, got on Seroquel, and slowly over time it went away.

A year later, it returned, while not taking ANY meds at all for anything. I've started Risperdal, and the flushing began to go away but two weeks into it, it just came back. The decade prior to this I was on every crazy med that exists, diagnosed with every imaginable problem from bipolar, to depression to ocd, but come to find out, all these were incorrect, and my problem was simply panic disorder and anxiety that just made me depressed and moody.

My theory is a decade of messing with your chemicals has caused my serotonin to just go awry - because SSRI's such as effexor or welbutrin make it worse, and seroquel and risperdal, serotonin antagonists, make it better. I've been tested for histamines, 5-HIAA (but not sure if it was accurate), lupas panel, and all the standard blood tests.

The flushing get progressively worse, after two months, I begin to have bad anxiety and panic attacks, leading to a racing heart all the time, and this disassociative feeling in my head like I am disconnected from my self.

I can not find another person or case anywhere in any journals of anyone going through this. I'd love some help.

I experienced some episodes of flushing while I was on strattera (which I just stopped taking a few days ago). At random times, I would just get really hot all over, and my face would get red and feel hot to the touch.
