Currently I'm taking a class in psychopharmacology as part of my MA in Counseling Psychology program.
According to what we are learning, which seems to be balanced, that benzodiazepines are very safe drugs that can save lives when people have major anxiety, muscular spasms, sleep issues, etc.
It seems that there are a whole lot of sites out there that make benzodiazepines sound like a street drug like crack cocaine.
I've been on Klonopin before with great results. When I was done with it after a year it was easy to taper and get off. The pdoc gave me Neurontin instead. Yet sometimes the Neurontin just does not do enough of what the Klonopin did. My restless legs and teeth grinding leading to tongue biting and cheek biting comes back. So, I have extra neurontin to try to take on top of the 600mg I take before sleep. Sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn't. It seemed to me that the benzo did a better job with RLS and bruxism than the neurontin.
I am allowed to use Ambien occasionally to help with my chronic anxiety that has not been helped by better sleep hygiene, exercise and the like. This is a benzo derivative and I swear that I wake up refreshed without a "druggy" feeling.
So, all of you benzo takers, are there any websites that I can find where the research supports my experience and what I'm learning in Psychopharmacology?
It would be nice to find the balance. They have their downsides, yet I find that the benefits outweighed the side-effects for me...

I visited a site that was devoted to using clonazepam for treatment and long term neuroprotection in fibromialgia.

I don't know of any websites, but will say that after ten years of horrible mental pain, 1mg of clonazepam 4x a day is more than great for me. I have used it on/off for past 4 years, no 'addiction', etc. I also use antidepressants and mood stabalizers, and find the combo near 'perfect'.

Thanks to all who provided information and sites. I read them and I found them useful... Please see my post below on sleep meds because I might have to switch to a benzo due to cost considerations.
