Very high doses (above 2000mg) are often used to get mania under control. Then depending on how severe the manic spells you tend to suffer, the routine daily dose typically ranges from about 375mg-1500mg/day, sometimes a little higher or lower. Some people "spot treat" the manias and don't take maintnenace dosage at all.
