cymbalta's side effects

Posted by tenofusrock on November 10, 2004, at 22:05:22

I started taking Cymbalta about a month ago. I just got up to 60mg about two weeks ago. I have had a headache and nausea and diarrhea since then. I have tried so many other medications and ECT, I was really hoping Cymbalta was going to be the answer. I don't know if I should stop taking it and see if these side effects go away or if I should stick it out a little longer. Has anyone else had similar side effects? What did you do?

I had the diarrhea, some nausea -- although not enough to worry about -- and some fairly mild headaches -- mild as in "Not Migraine", if that helps any. They went away, but only after I changed the way that I took the Cymbalta. And mostly have stayed away, although who knows whether the headache I have right this minute is caused by Cymbalta, less sleep than I really need last night, wearing my contacts all day in glare, or anything else?

When I first started taking Cymbalta, I took it the way I take my vitamins, and every other med I take: swallow them all down, then cut up my egg for breakfast. In other words, right before eating. The doctor told me to eat first, then take the Cymbalta. I was skeptical, at best, but it did make a difference. As soon as I started taking the Cymbalta AFTER eating, the diarrhea disappeared. (I was constipated for a while, but what seems to work for me is eating my egg, taking the Cymbalta, and then eating my toast. No problems.)

The nausea and the headaches were never that bad, but they're gone, too, except what are probably unrelated headaches. All the other transient effects are gone, too, like some initial sleep disturbances, etc.

Good luck, and it's worth sticking out if you can, see if this works for you.

after being on cymbalta for nine weeks the headaches are the only side effect left. Can't swear that the cymbalta is causing them tho.

nausea is gone, sleepiness a lot less apparent.

i take tylenol almost every day. i heard someone say that taking cymbalta before or after breakfast makes a difference in side effects. i would try taking it both ways and see if one or the other is better. i'm going to try that with the headaches.

It's my second week on Cymbalta. So far, I've had only mild headaches and no stomach issues. BUT... my heart has been beating very rapidly, and I've been out of breath and dizzy. I hope these go away.
