I got drunk on friday and i am feeling really crappy today.I am taking 60mg of prozac and i was taking effexor, but couldn't stand the side effects.I was sweating really bad.My question is i quit effexor cold turkey a couple of days ago. Will i be ok without it if i continue to take prozac?I also feel really depressed, i know its because i drank alcohol this weekend. When will i feel back to normal?

Hi Lexman. I am on zoloft, which is essentially the same as prozac except that zoloft has a longer half-life. I sometimes feel really crappy after drinking too, just a general "sick" feeling.
I am not too familiar with effexor, but I have recently been weaning down my zoloft, and I have been warned that even weaning slowly can cause withdrawal symptoms. However, I know that a lot of people are given a low dose of prozac to counteract their withdrawal symptoms. Because prozac has such a short half-life, it is very easy to come off of once the withdrawal from the original drug has stopped. So, maybe you will be fine stopping the effexor cold turkey because you also have the prozac, but I think you should talk to your doctor about it. As for the depression, it could be a symptom of withdrawal, augmented by the drinking, or it could mean that you still need the effexor. Again, I would talk to your doctor about it...if you really hate the effexor, maybe he/she can give you a different medicine, or tell you how to wean off of it slowly.
Coming off of these meds can be a tricky thing.Best of luck to you!
