I just started effexor two days ago at 37.5mg with a target of only 75mg once a day. I am terrified of the impending withdrawal, as I don't plan to stay on effexor forever. Is any one else out there on a really low dose or has anyone been on a low dose and successfully quit it after some time? I am hoping that since it I am not on too much my withdrawal won't be as bad, but I don't know if that is really how it works. I am on it as a mood stabilizer, as I don't have severe depression, just irritable and moody with seemingly random crying spells.
I am also experimenting to see if being happier makes me able to come off of clonidine, which I take to control Tourette's symptoms, although clonidine seems like a much safer drug to be on!

>Hi ants,
Do you have any kind of bipolar disorder? Effexor isn't a mood stabilizer, if you are bipolar it would probably push you into mania faster than any SSRI. I also think Effexor is probably better suited to people who are suicidaly depressed & I would recommend that you try a good SSRI or TCA first.
Cheers,
Paul.
