Hi, I have been severly depressed off and on (mostly on) for aprox 5 years. I have tried several meds that did nothing for me and found a couple things (SJW and Zoloft) which did a great job for aprox 4 months then quit working and gave me headaches. OK now for my question. I recently gave up on Paxil after about a month. It seemed to be making me more depressed. Within two days I felt wonderful with no withdrawl symptoms except that my mood has been great (as good as I had initially with SJW and Zoloft)...this has lasted aprox 4 days now. Has anybody had a similar experience or know what is causing this OR how to keep it going? Thanks in advance, FB

I may be wrong but it could be a dopamine surge as SSRI's seretonin deplete dopamine over time..eventually the chemistry balances out. Maybe the good mood it will continue for you..

Maybe the good mood it will continue for you..I agree it is probably an increase in dopamine from dropping the wretched dopamine depleting Paxil. I've experienced the same phenemenon when dropping Zoloft myself. Unfortunately, it never lasted more than a few days for me. I don't think it says much for this class of drugs when people can feel much better just by dropping them, but not everyone experiences this.

That's happened to me with several meds but it was short lived, too. One pdoc told me as it left my system it may have passed thru the therapeutic range. That makes me wonder why I was on a higher dose.

I usually feel better after dropping meds. It used to last a month or so, then the depression would return. Last time I tried it didn't last more than a few days. Maybe because I'm on celexa now which is shorter acting?
I always thought it was because my body just felt so much better without the side effects. I'd get a feeling of physical well-being that I just don't have when on meds, and meanwhile the brain boost takes a while to wear off.
This is the end of the thread.
