Hello,
I am about starting a benzo for long term use. I already tried Clonazepam (Klonopin,Rivotril) and Alprazolam (Xanax,Xanor) and they both help my condition.
I am considering taking either 2mg Clonazepam a day or a 3mg XR tablet of Xanax. Is't as good as the Clonazepam ? Does it give relief as the immediate release Xanax all day long?
Hope someone can share their experiences with me.
Christine

I now use Xanax only for panic attacks or near panic.

I have been taking xanax for years, I did try the XR, didnt like it. I felt sleepy all day and did not like the idea that during an "anxiety" moment, I couldnt take another since it was all day...So, i went back to 2mg of the reg. xanax. But like the last post said, you build up a tolerance. (it took me about 3 yrs) but yesterday, I went to my pdoc and told her that I had a panic attack while taking xanax .05mg and asked her if i should go up to 3mg daily. She said no, and then put me on klonopin. So, thats where I am. I think it is better for SP, since from my experiance xanax only prevented (for the most part) panic attacks. But did nothing for my social "fears"...
Good Luck

I was taking Klonopin and although helpful I found it very sedating and causing ataxia ("drunk-like"). I switched to Xanax XR which so far is working just as well or better than Klonopin did and without the sedation or ataxia. Plus I think the Xanax XR is also helping a little with my depression. So I would advise to give Xanax XR a try, it works better for me, if does for you too then great, otherwise you can always go back to Klonopin.

I would like to know if Chess (or anyone) compared XR to the regular alprazolam, I mean if this goo result with XR was not produced when taking the old form.
Thanks
