Are you using Klonopin? This has helped tremendously with SP for me.

Thats quite a challenge I suppose klonopin or another benzo would be your best bet.
Nardil is also supposed to be very good for SP.Personaly I found Xycrem (GHB) to be very effective for SP, just be very careful not to get adicted!

Thanks for the posts. Sorry my first didn't give much info, I was rushed to get to work. I need to get this resolved by the 27th because that is when school starts. Last term I did miserably because I could hardly get the gourd up to go to class. That was during treatment with zoloft, which BTW, withdrawals suck! Which is partly why I would like to avoid the SSRI thing again, tho I know they are typically the best option as far as pdocs are concerned.
Currently taking:
Adderall 5mg 3x daily (ADHD)
Wellbutrin 300mg XL (ADHD + Depression)Tried xanax last week, pdoc gave me 8 because I was having a *really* rough week. I found they helped a ton, I was overall much happier and at ease. Though I worry that they would be very addictive, and I would end up mis-using them. I have no history thereof, but I have never worried about that before having taken the xanax. Pdoc recommended Xanax XR after discussing the addictive potential (I.E. Limited supply). I mentioned klonopin, she doesn't like that due to depressant potential. Have an appointment on the 23rd and I am assuming I will have to go with a benzo, but if nardil or any other type drugs are highly effective and QUICKLY I would be VERY open to them as alternative to benzos. Any more advice???
Thanks again!
Matt

Matt,
Klonopin is NOT addictive in people with Social Phobia. It doesn't produce a "High" at least that I can tell. There is a website called the Social Anxiety Network that discusses medications, in particular, Klonopin. If you need something quick and effective, that would be it. Just my two cents.
Good Luck

The pdoc said she prefers Xanax XR over klonopin only because klonopin can cause depression. Have you become "dependent" on the klonopin? Have you ever felt depressed, at least moreso with the klonopin? My fear is only that after starting treatment with a benzo that it would be difficult to learn to be functional in social situations again without the aid thereof. Thanks -- Matt

I've used Xanax off and on for 20 years. It does cuase dependance, but for some of us its the only thing that helps our anxiety problems.
I have also used Clonopin, which is not as effective for me.
Niether one of these drugs gives me a "high" and I can and do use the dose the Pdoc prescribes, no more then that, so it is not addictive in that you need to up the dose after time, as with some drugs.
It would be great if there were an alternative to benzo's for treating anxiety disorders, but at this moment in time, there is not.

hi, just wanted to say I feel the same way about SP, I dont think anything really works. However, I have not tried MAOI's. I have taken xanax everyday 2mg for years and I have finally grown tolerant to it. So, yesterday, my pdoc switched me to klonopin because she didnt want to up my xanax dose again -for fear of addiction. I am starting a new job in a month and am scared to death about it all. (lots of new ppl etc) so I am counting on klonopin to help.....you may want to ask about it...
Good Luck

Ok, you want fast? You better go with the Klonopin. Your shrink worried about it causing depression? Check this out:
http://www.rxlist.com/rxboard/celexa.pl?read=3490...then show it (or the study, which is new) to your doc.
But of course, even if it works, you'll have to take it forever, or you'll be back where you were, right? Well, maybe but look at this:
http://www.socialfear.com/klonopin_lasting_benefit_after_short_term_use.html
The whole website where I got the above link(socialfear.com) is well worth visiting.
Whaddaya worried?
