Hi Candy -Do all of your doctors know what medications you are taking? I know that sometimes a gp and a pdoc and even a specialist can be prescribing at the same time without knowing what the other is doing. So long as all your docs have full disclosure on your meds, and if they all feel as if what your taking is okay, it most likely is. (Not that docs can't be wrong.)
Good Luck!

Hi Starrs - Yes, when you say it that way it does remind you of the old Marilyn Monroe/Judy Garland stories of speed during the day and downers at night.
Out of curiosity I googled Ativan. I don't mean to sound scary, but it did specifically say that Ativan combined with "sedatives, sleeping pills, other benzodiazepines" can cause death. It also says that CNS depressants (the Vicodan) combined with the Ativan can cause a slower rate of breathing.
The only mention it makes of amphetimines (Ritilan) is that taking them together can reduce the effectiveness of the Ativan.
Please keep in mind that the above info came from a drug rehab/addiction/treatment site and could be bias.
Here's the page I was looking at:
www.drug-rehab-addiction-treatment.com/ativan.html+adivan&hl=en
When I was looking into the Ambien, it didn't mention and problems regarding taking Ritilan during the day. It did mention that Ambien could increase the sedative properties of anxiety medications.
www.drugs.com/ambien.html+Ambien&hl=en
Do you have depression along with your anxiety? If so, just a thought. You may want to try weaning off the Ambien while starting a sedating antidepressant such as Remeron. Remeron is taken at bedtime. I used to take it and it would knock me out in a heartbeat. As a matter of fact, I still have leftover pills from a prior prescription, when I occassionally have a problem going to sleep, I take a quarter of a tablet and I'm gone.
For me, I am presently taking 45mg Buspar (for my anxiety/anger issues)- 15mg 3 x day. For me, I find it non-sedating. I also take 150mg Effexor, 300mg Wellbutrin, and 30mg Adderall XL.
This combo is helping me fight off my daytime lethargy and apathy. (I also don't dread coming to my office because I'm so tired anymore.)
Please let me know if you would like to chat furter! Best of all!!!

I'm so glad that your doctor reviewed everything and verified it was okay - like your Ritilan, I find my Adderall really helps with my daytime energy. It's great that you don't have to be concerned about your meds now...we all have so many other things to be concerned about!Smiles!

if you feel you are addicted, or becoming addicted, to ambien i really think you should switch medications. before ambien i have been on trazodone which might work for you. it can be just as sedating given the right dosage. my doc just switched me to seroquel for sleep instead of ambien. i wanted to discontinue ambien (wsa on 30mg) because i would always hallucinate before i fell asleep, even on 10mg, and sometimes would wake up in the night and hallucinate, more recently. scary stuff. anyway, why i say to discontinue if you feel addicted to it is because i have read accounts of people being VERY addicted to ambien, and it supposedly is more addicting than other medications that help with sleep, like trazodone.

im not sure if its additition or not i do not take it every night but the nights i dont i do not sleep as well, i have tryed other meds, trazadone when i had no insurance and i was all druged out the next day i cant have that, i went through cancer about 4 years ago and they gave it to me then for sleep and it just seems to really help, when other live or death matters are there i think that addition to a sleep aid is just not one of the most important things that docs worry about, its the same with the adivan i have been taking it that long to, but the doc seems to think the low dosage will be fine.and know for the no energy the ritalin seems to help, i think the way the docs are looking at it is that im still here so they need me to be as good as i can, which i am finally feeling better. thanks for you responce
