Does anything work as good as benzo's that aren't

Posted by Jaynee on September 10, 2004, at 0:23:48

I have hellish stomach problems. I have been doing pretty good, depression and anxiety wise. Have been taking 10mg Celexa for 20 days a month and then 20 mg Celexa for 10 days a month. I have also been taking zopiclone to sleep for about a year now. I obviously have underlying anxiety that I have convinced myself I don't have a problem with, because for a good 3 to 4 years now my stomach absolutely disturbs my life.

Without going into detail, the only thing that works for my stomach and makes me feel great or "normal", is if I take benzo's. But my doc doesn't believe in them.

What works like benzo's that doc's aren't freaked about prescribing?

HELP

Hi Jaynee,

What sort of stomach problems are you having? I'm taking TCA's for my stomach & bum problems. :)

Cheers,
Paul.

I don't really know what the diagnosis is. It maybe IBS. I have really "bad" burping, basically constant. Sometimes when I eat, I blow up like a balloon. Its the pain in my ribs that's really driving me crazy. I used to have this choking sensation in my throat, like I had a noose around it, but that is gone, thankfully, now the noose is around my rib cage. The pain can get so bad it wakes me up. Doctors don't know what the hell it is either.

The only time I get any real relief is when I am stoned on benzo's. What's a girl to do.......

I really don't know what can cause that amount of gas, have you tried taking something natural like yoghurt or something that contains a doseage of good bacteria?

The TCA's slow down your digestive system which will cause constipation if your current movements are normal. I would guess Benzos would have the same effect caused by a different mechanism.

Cheers,
Paul.

Jaynee,

I can feel your pain... I too have those stomach problems and the ONLY thing that has worked for me is xanax. I am on zoloft for depression and anxiety, its been determined that the stomach problems are from the anxiety, because I've tried every stomach medicine out there. Get a new doc!! Only been on the zoloft for about 3 weeks, was on celexa before that but it caused major sedation. I'm hoping the zoloft will help in the long run, but right now I have to have the xanax, take it about 3 times a week.

I like my family doc, but I really have no more use for pdoc's. Nothing but bad experiences with those guys. I have a gastroenterologist that I have seen on and off. I have hemochromatosis, so that is why I see him mostly. But hemochromatosis shouldn't be giving me the stomach problems I have. I too have been on just about every stomach medication known. Zelnorm, didn't really give that a full try, may try again, the PPI's eg. Pantaloc, Nexium, etc. Had a scope done, barium's etc. Lucky for me they found nothing. Oh ya even had the Hpylori breath test done, nothing.

Like you the only thing that seems to help is benzo's, which of course doctors don't like to give out. I need a new drug....................., one that won't freak out the doctors and works for me. I shouldn't have to live with this pain.

My stomach used to act up when I was severely anxious. Zyprexa works better for me than benzos did. My pdoc actually encouraged me to take the benzos, and didn't want me to take Zyprexa because of possible SEs. You go figure.
