Is there anybody here (specially males) that have experienced the sexual side effects of these medications wearing off after having them for some time?
If they didn´t wear off for me after months on Zoloft, Prozac or Effexor, can they wear off on Lexapro on which I am also experiencing them?Thank you!

Hello,
Well I am a female but they affect both males and females i the same manner, they delay orgasm. The side effects don't go away with time. I would suggest adding Remeron. It can reverse the sexual/anxiety/insomnia side effects.

Hello!
Besides having a very delayed orgasm (when I have patience), I feel much less the touches in my penis. I am convinced I need to take a SSRI, even with this side effect, but it is so hard to deal with it!! :(
I tryed Remeron alone before. I had no SSE, but other side effects were unbearable.
Do you have another suggestion?
Thank you!

> KXoHello,
Welbutrin might be another option. Heard many helped by it to counteract the sexual side effects of SSRIs. SSRIs increase the activity of serotonin, but serotonin will work on ALL of it's receptors, some are involved in mood but others work inhibitory on sexual sensations.
Why do you think that you must take SSRIs? They will help if your depression is characterized by low mood (sadness) but not if it's low motivation levels, energy, concentration problems, anhedonia (dishedonia)... These would be helped by a dopaminergic or a noradrenergic, such as Wellbutrin, Edronax (soon available in tha US???), or a combination of Selegiline and Amisulpride (Available here in europe but not in the US). Buspar might be an option too (works on serotonin but without the side effects)....

As you've seen, effects and side-effects of meds vary tremendously from patient to patient. Sexual side-effects are common with many AD's. I'll share my personal experience with Prozac, Celexa, Lexapro and Effexor. The sexual side-effects of the first 3 were similar for me. My first AD was Prozac, which for a while (SSRI's are commonly known to "poop out" after continued use) had very beneficial effects for my depression. But I found the sexual side-effects distressing. I eventually realized my distress was a BIG part of the problem. When I finally decided that the benefits outweighed the sexual side-effects, something interesting happened. I accepted the "problem" and decided not to be overly distressed by it. The side-effect did subside to some degree and my new attitude actually helped my sex life. Lovemaking with my ex-wife lasted longer (she certainly didn't complain), the sex act became more enjoyable because I was less "orgasm oriented" and I did eventually climax, despite the Prozac. Bottom line is that the side-effect actually became a BENEFIT. Interesting, huh? With Effexor, I couldn't climax, period. I discontinued it for that reason and it wasn't helping the depression problem, either. Maybe a minor attitude adjustment on your part will help, as with my case. Good luck!

Thank you for your interest in helping. I think it may be useful for me some day and I am sure it is useful for people that are also reading here.
However, as a young person, I find it very hard to follow. I want to see the real thing!! I want to orgasm with a woman!! I just ejaculate (softer) after much hand work (and it needs to be my hand work). It takes about 10 times more time and sweating than without medication. Also, I want to feel my penis as before!! It prejudices my recovery!!
I am trying to accept the problem as you say, but I couldn´t yet.
