Should Never Have Gone on Effexor

Posted by smileyjil on August 29, 2004, at 14:23:20

Hi all. First, thanks for all the responses to my former posting. Secondly, I just wish I would have known how badly the withdrawal effects were going to be before I ever gone this drug. My doctor never told me I would have withdrawal, and I never asked. I have not felt myself since I have been weaning off of it for the last 3 weeks. I get nautious, dizzy, light headed, etc. It is like having the flu all the time. I find it difficult to function at my job and in life itself. Excedrin and Vitamin B-12 have helped, but it's certainly no cure by any means. I know each person is different, but does anyone know how long the symptoms will last for? I was on the drug for a total of 3 and a half months, starting at 37.5 and going to 150mg, than weaning back down. I am now on 12.5mg for a few more days. I just want to feel "normal" again. I can really appreciate good health now, you know? Until it's gone, it's easy to take it for granted. I feel like this is a miserable punishment, for which, I did nothing wrong, but try to get "better" by ridding of my panic attacks. What a mess! Any advice for a miserable girl??

I am also weaning off Effexor and am down to about 18mg at this time. BENADRYL has been a life saver for me! I too have been expriencing the same flu like symptoms and I must say it also feels like a really bad hangover from too much alcohol the night before on top of it all. The BENADRYL stops the dizziness and flu symptoms. I almost feel normal once it kicks in. I take 2 BENADRYL pills after breakfast and within a half hour I feel so much better.
