I decided to get off Effexor XR a few weeks ago. I've been tapering successfully with the usual side effects that others have had here. I have been cutting the dose in half every 3 days since I was at 150mg to 37.5mg. The first 24 hours I don't notice anything. Within 48 hours the dizziness, headaches, nausea, irritability, sickness is in full force. By 36 hours I feel normal again. I can tolerate this cycle. Now I am down to about 18mg. I don't know how much I should decrease after this point. Should I stop completely or should I cut the 18mg in half? or in 3rds? or 4ths? At what frequency should the dose changes occur? I guess I am impatient and want this to all be over soon.

just stop it.. u will get same affects when tapering than what you would stopping it now... imo.. are you going on any other meds?

I don't intend to go on any other prescribed meds. Effexor was my first and only prescribed AD and it has not left a postitive impression with me. I've got a new bottle of Saint John's Wort ready and waiting for me to begin taking when I am finished with my Effexor. I'll give SJW a fair trial before deciding if I need something stronger.
I might take your advice and stop taking the remaining few milligrams of Effexor when I have a few days off of work just in case the last bit of withdrawl kicks my butt too hard. Thanks for the advice crazychickuk.
