Hi Cyber.
I am a bit over 1 week into the Parnate. I can't say I notice any change in libido, but there is rather pronounced anorgasmia and a general loss of sexual sensation. I hope it returns.
Reboxetine sent my libido sky high but with terrible premature ejaculation.How long since you've been off Paxil? Not to be alarmist, but my sexual function was never the same after 4 years of Effexor. Hopefully your function will recover fully.

I'm five and a half weeks into the Parnate experience -- 40 mg per day. For the first couple of weeks I had moderate anorgasmia and some loss of sensation. Libido may have been down a little too. After 3 or four weeks, everything was back to 'normal'. I sometimes get days now when my libido is increased, but I haven't ever had a problem with premature ejaculation and that hasn't changed. So I would say to wait and see what pans out. Hope this helps.
Piquet.

Parnate can cause "retrograde" ejaculation, where ejaculation occurs before orgasm. Weird stuff.
Everything should normalize soon. MAOIs are better that way than are SSRIs.

Retrograde ejaculation is actually the phenemenon where semen goes into the bladder instead of following its natural route. It is also referred to as "dry" ejaculation. Alpha blockers are notorious for causing this particular effect.Todd

been on parnate before. No mood stabilizer. Really high libido. No girls in life. This was about a year.
Went off parnate.
Was on celexa + ritalin .. zero libido ... started abilify + discontinued celexa ... really high libido. added parnate, felt decreased libido. but to complicate things i might have 2 or 3 new girlfriends a month (got over avoidant personality disorder ;) ) and maybe i am just bored? i don't know ...
Dude there is some weird stuff going on. Like
Abilify = insomnia
Parnate = insomnia
Abilify + Parnate = normal sleepAbilify (or discontinued celexa?) = increased libido
parnate = increased libido
abilify + parnate = normal or lowered libido (who knows what normal is???? i'm a bipolar ;) )
mood = euthymic btwthanks for all the answers and candidness guys... much appreciated...
i have zero right to complain... i just think ... damn .. if only i was as successful at meeting ladies when i actually had a really high libido as i am now :(
i wonder if there is a way to find out if you have low sex drive or just "sorry dude you're not hypomanic anymore, get used to it" sex drive

god i have about 4 really interesting med school/pharmacy college textbooks sitting around here i am just dieing to read but not the time
it's wonderful to be able to come on here and get answers from real life people, not only because it saves you major time, but because you actually know this stuff is working for people ...
i just wish that were enough for the canadian government to allow the limited use of abilify in canada in my case (bristol meyers is being really cool about it)

Thanks, Todd.My error.
With Parnate, I have experienced an abnormal orgasm where ejaculate appears prior to the sensation of orgasm. This occurred during the first few weeks of treatment and then disappeared.

Hi Scott I`m on Parnate about a few weeks. I increased it in the last 3 weeks from 40 to 60 mg. Now I experience s similar problem you described. As soon as I have an erection or I get an premature orgasm which feels not really as normally. I also take 100mg Trazodone for about a month (sleep probs). It works for sleep but I have the intention that the problem worsened?!
Can it also be the low blood pressure from Parnate.
I`m bipolar II with social anxiety. I also take Lithium, Lamictal. Abilify, T4 and Klonopin (sexual side effects?) and Valproate.
Many thanks for your reply
Ben
