RITALIN---DEXEDRINE****MORE MENTALLY STIMULATING?

Posted by paulbwell on August 15, 2004, at 16:50:56

I take Ritalin for ADD, and my PsyDoc says people prefer it to Dex as its more activating on the frontal cortex, and less so on the body system. I think its pooping out some.

Anyone with experiences, and comments?

Thanks

I could not disagree more with your pdoc. For me ritalin is next to worthless (I've tried concerta). I've tried taking 30-40mg of concerta and I felt like I'd drunk a strong cup of coffee - that's all.

However, totally different story on adderall xr. I'll take 20mg and feel my motivation, interest and enthusiasm come surging back and I'm able to work a good 5 or 6 hours before I usually take another 10mg.

Unfortunately, I do get some side effects on the adderall, namely, irritability, short temper, emotional numbness and aloofness. I'm hoping this is due to me being BPII as well and that lamictal (which ive recently begun) will help.
