Hi,
My P/Doc has recently started me on Sodium Valproate for fairly severe GAD, social phobia and mild panic disorder, however I don't have any type of mania. I'm currently on 600mg per day - but it is having little effect. He said he may need to up this dose to around 1400mg per day. I'm also on 40mg Prozac for depression.
Does anyone have any experience with Sodium Valproate for anxiety?? What are its worst side effects and at what dosage do they occur? Is any other anti-convulsant better than Valproate for anxiety?

Well, it may or may not work...I know that is a dumb answer, but we are all so unique. I am using two mood stabalizers in a combo, valproate and topamax. I've just started this massive combo (I am on 4 other meds), so I will have to wait to see what happens.All's I can say is really, *really* try to tough it out, but if something clearly isn't working, get right back to your doctor and demand a change. Your body...your right...your life!

Hi there, I'm going to try this as well. I hope it works out for us... you want to add another mood stabilizer in there as well for augmentation... good luck on this. May or may not work. I'm going to start super low though so I don't have as many side effects.
