paxil - effextive?

Posted by jenneh on August 5, 2004, at 13:22:12

Hello
I have just started taking paxil 10mg a day for depression and anxiety, especially generalized anxiety. I have been taking it for 4 days = which I realize is not long, but this is what I have noticed: nervousness (same I guess), nausea, FATIGUE etc. Is this normal? Also, how effective has paxil been for depression/anxiety in others? Any help is appreciated!

Hello, it seems like when you start a new ssri, you will feel weird or bad for a while. You need to give it 2-4 wks to really see who it will be. Some people I know have had great experiances with paxil and some have not. (i have not) but i give my medication about 5 months and if it doesnt work. Move on to something else. But try it for at least a month before you make up your mind either way.
Good Luck

Paxil Great For Me

Paxil worked great for me! It was the first AD I had used. My pdoc started me on 5 mgs (I cut 10mgs in half), for about a week then 10mgs. And a 10mg dose up about every 4-5 weeks untill I got to 40.

He suggested, And I did, take the Meds at night to help me get through the side effects easily.

He also gave me something to help me sleep, when I needed it.
I am so glad I got through the starting effects. Which subsided in a couple of months. Paxil helped me tremendosly.
I NEVER gained weight and withdrawl was not too bad either.
Best Wishes,
Cindy

I believe tirating up and tapering down VERY SLOWLY is key when adjusting to any Meds.

I have been on Paxil for a few years now. The funny feelings are associated with MOST
(all I know) SSRIs. I am currently on 40mg Paxil, 25mg Elavil, & Welbutrin XL 300. The
Welbutrin made me very "wide-eyed" for a little while, but the elavil & paxil seem to
cancel that out now.

Paxil was also my 1st AD.

The biggest problem I’ve had is Sweating.

Just give it some time.

Night Sweats were horrendous for me when I started Paxil. I layered down several towels on my bed every night. My clothing, hair, and bed would get SOAKED.
I also had a feeling that I can only describe as "drugged".

Like Jbee sayed, Just give it some time.
Best Wishes,
Cindy

paxil really digressed my situation. I gained 50 pounds, became spacey, forgetfullness and more fatigued which i thought i can get no more fatigued.

Paxil was not for me.

My p-doc and i changed my objective priorities. Originally we set out to treat my anxiety with the typical AD's.

We then changed to treat my depression, with different AD's. It's eliminated my anxiety. I now believe my anxiety was a side effect of other depression symptoms that standard ssri's could not help.

They explained to me that anxiety, ADHD, depression are all so closely related you just have to keep throwing darts and document your progress or digression.
