Seeing as how a sleep p-doc who saw me mentioned Zoloft as one of the SSRIs he suggested I take (he basically named them all) and then ending with "none of them will make you sleepy"-- how bad is it really?
I've heard on this board people referring it to Zzzzoloft, but am skeptical as to whether these members actually took it before bed instead of the obvious time to avoid taking it, in the morning.
I was on Celexa before, and after a few weeks I mentioned I felt sleepy on it, and my pdoc told me to take it at night and this effect went away immediately.

i used to take zoloft and i now take celexa - i didn't notice sleepiness in either one and i've taken them in the am and the pm. each person is different, so if its better for you to take them at night, i say go with what works.

I always took Zoloft in the morning and don't recall it making me particularly sleepy. Effexor definitely did, though, for a few hours after taking it. Both drugs also gave me insomnia (the type where you wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep), so it seemed to make more sense to take them in the morning. Out of the 11 drugs from various classes that I've tried, I would put Zoloft in the "activating" category, but not as much so as the other SSRI I've tried, Prozac.

>Celexa has modest activity as a H1 antagonist, it is it's 2nd most potent activity so it's not surprising that it makes you sleepy. Zoloft's 2nd most potent activity is as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor & I think this is the reason people complain about it being emotionally flatnening.
