Hi,
Anyone on this combo still having success. Partly cloudy, I remember you were liking it. I've tried Topomax and hated it, so I'll be going back to the doc to try Wellbutrin with Effexor. I'm hoping it will help a bit with libido and weight control. Any input would be appreciated-thank you!

It's working very well for me. Anxiety is vastly reduced, panic attacks occur maybe 1 x day instead of 24/7 (what a relief). I'm back up to 150mg of Effexor xr, 300mg Wellbutrin xl, xanax .5mg as needed, and Ambien 5mg as needed. I keep an eye on my blood pressure, and I still experience some excessive perspiring. If only I could dip my entire body in anti-perspirant, it wouldn't be a problem.
The depression only rears its ugly head if something situational triggers it - and I'm getting excellent treatment from my therapist and also with EMDR.
My p-doc currently sees me for follow-up every 3 weeks. My libido came back (thank heavens), and my weight is back to pre-medication days. Now I have the depression under sufficient control, I'm able to exercise, too. It's always been an issue for me (just don't like doing it because I'm lazy and I sweat like the dickens), but I found a gym that does 30-minute workouts - short enough to make it doable, but long enough to get good results.
For those interested, I had also tried Celexa, Paxil, Inderal, Ativan, Buspar, Vistaril, and Zyprexa. This is for a dx of Bipolar2, GAD, and Panic Attacks. I've been taking meds for 6 or 7 years but only started seeing a p-doc and T last October.
Let me know if you need any other particulars.

Thanks for the info! It is so wierd how similar your experience is to mine. I have the same diagnosis and our treatment plans have been similar. I take ambien for sleep as needed, which works wonderfully. Instead of Xanax (which I tried) I take Klonopin, which I also like. Klonopin doesn't make me quite as drowsy. I am definitely going to add the Wellbutrin to the mix. I hope it works as well for me. I'll update to the board to let you and others know how it works. Thanks again!

My pleasure - let me know if I can help at all. It is odd about the dx and meds, isn't it?

PartlyCloudy,
Interesting that you have never been on depakote, lithium or lamictal since I understand these are the standard for people with BiPolar. Any insight on why your doctor didn't use these? I am BP II, GAD, OCD(?) and am not comfortable were I am at, you have read some of my previous posts which in my opinion makes it obvious that my meds are not right. I currently take 900 mgs lithium (I am not thrilled) with this med, 600 mgs trileptal and 50 mgs lamictal( I have only been on it a couple of weeks titrating up). I tell my pdoc how I am feeling but she says these are the rigt meds for you know. I have seen numerous pdocs so I am trying not to switch again. The issues I need to combat are the depression, negative thoughts, rumination and anxiety.
thanks

My p-doc did not want to put me on a mood stabilizer (is that what those meds you listed are?) as my BP2 has very short manic episodes - she actually said my case was mild.

That is very interesting, yes these drugs are mood stabilizers, which I am on, and my hypomania only occurs for 3-4 days maybe 4 times year. I am going to look further into this.
thanks a bunch
