Klonopin, any info or experience good bad?

Posted by searching4ans on June 19, 2004, at 14:31:25

For my anxiety/panic condition I am familiar with Seroquel(big mistake) and Xanax(works OK), but I am not familiar with Klonopin, any experiences?

For my Generalized and Social Anxiety plus Agoraphobia, Klonopin was a great drug. I remained at a low dose and weaned off without problems. Low SE profile for me. When weaning was started, I did think it was causing some depressive symptoms and some short term memory problems. They were fairly mild. The key to good treatment with any benzo, IMO, is a supportive Dr. and good careful followup, in particular, if you plan to use a benzo alone for treatment, as I did. Klonopin is a long half life benzo which means dosing can be less frequent. Klonopin did not make me feel "great", in an inapproiate and abuse potiential way, but did work on my anxiety so that I could get my life back. I would not nix using it again if my situation merited such.

Klonopin works great for my panic/anxiety. It doesn't have the euphoric feeling you get with xanax or valium, so I think that helps with not getting addicted so easily.
I use it at night and usually sleep pretty soundly.

Klonopin has been the only drug to help my GAD. I am on a low dose (.5mg twice a day, sometimes adding an extra .25mg midday). My dosage has not changed in 10 months and I still get the same effect. My anxiety is mostly under control, I feel more even and have less mental confusion and brain overload. It did cause sedation at first, which resolved after about a week or 10 days. I have some mild short term memory problems, but no other SE's at all. It does help with racing thoughts of GAD, but not as well as Celexa. However ALL the drugs (SSRI's and Buspar, Moclobemide and Remeron) I've been on have not resolved my anxiety and gave me awful side effects.
Good experience overall. Good luck!
Jas

I think it's the long half life of klonopin that I like the best. I have been on the same dosage for 4-5 years now.
