I'm Bipolar II but have been depressed for several months, I take Lamictal and Trileptal and recently had to get my scrips from my GP rather than my Pdoc because - he's Fired for confidentiality issues! So my GP has taken over my current med refills until I see my new Pdoc who I pray is a kinder more sensitive person that I can trust. She comes with good recomendations at least.
So I asked my GP to add some welbutrin to the mix - she did, 150 mgs, extended release per day. I told my husband and he's concerned that it will exacerbate my anxiety. I think my anxiety is basically overall negative thinking patterns that need to be addressed (which I'm trying to do). They are pretty PTSD'd in there - and it takes awhile to root that stuff out.
Are there any antidepressents out there that do a good job of calming (tried Zoloft once and loved the initial feeling - I felt so calm!) but don't cause weight gain? Weight gain is a very big issue for me. I won't even get on a scale at the Dr.s office. I tell them, "no thank you." Not even before my surgery. I think one time in the last 7 years someone insisted and I threw a fit and made them promise not to allow me to see the number. - Recovered eating disorder person - proud to say that it's been 11 years!!
Or what would be your suggestions for adding to the Lamictal and Trileptal?

It seems not everyone is prone to weight gain on the "big ten" (the current SSRI's and SNRI's the pharm companies and docs have been pushing in the last few years) anti-depressants.
Unfortunately, probably like you, I've gained weight on most of them. All SSRI's have caused weight gain/retention for me. As well as the SNRI's like Efexxor and Serzone. I don't think anyone knows for sure the exact function that causes the related weighgain but it's REAL -despite what ignorant doctors might say. Nardil made it easy to pack on the fat too!
Guess I'm just trying to help through process of elimination. Good luck!

Allthough it is a wonderfull drug, Wellbutrin is not indicated for anyone with eating diorders-past or prestent. Sorry.
I never had a problem with antidepressants and gaining weight-till now.
Im recently off Wellbutrin 450 xl(SEIZURES). Now on Lexapro. Ive gained 22 pounds in 3 months. I even lost weight on Paxil in the past.
I hope you have a positive experience with your new pdoc.
Best Wishes,
Cindy

I took wellbutrin for about two years before old nasty jerk ass Pdoc took me off and put me on the anticonvulsants. I like wellbutrin because of the lack of sexual and weight gain side effects. Since my eating disorder is completely resolved and has been for about 12 years, she was comfortable prescribing it. But I understand that it can cause some anxiety and I'm pretty positive I've got PTSD. So adding something to take the edge off would be great. OR changing to a better antidepressant that doesn't cause weight gain but addresses the anxiety would be great. I loved the feeling I initially got from Zoloft, but it caused a weight increase too.
