Hey everyone,
I am a sufferer of SP combined with OCD. I have tried all the SSRI's to no avail. They have all increased my anxiety dramatically and I had to stop them.
As Ace said Nardil is extremely effective for SP. This is my last option, as I have tried all the med's known to man. I need relief now.
I just need words of encourgement from others who have tried Nardil for SP and won the battle.
I start Nardil next tues. and am very afraid bc of all the dietary restrictions and possible side effects. But as I said this is my last option.
Anyone please share your exeriences, dosage, etc. if you have SP and if Nardil has helped you. I am at the end of my rope.
PS: I am also on Klonipin which helps for SP but I keep needing to up the dose to achieve relief from my SP.
Thank you very much,Shanti

Shanti do a google search...look up "Nardil stories" + "Nardil saved my life" + "I am the Nardil King" + "Nardil success". Look up stuff like that, and do previous search on here (psycho babble)I have a folder at home with at least 90 Nardil success stories!!!

Ace,
thanks again for the info. I spent at least 8 hours going over all the postings. There goes my OCD again. Anyways, your story is exactly like mine, I can't believe it! I would NEVER leave the house w/o my benzo's. If any anxiety situation would arise, something as simple as going to class I would have to pop a benzo to relieve the anxiety.
This is no way to live. I have decided to start Nardil on tues. A few more questions if you don't mind:
1) Can you smoke cigarettes on Nardil?
2) What category is Nardil? I am planning on having a baby and found little research in this area.
3) Do you know the half-life of Nardil?
That's all for now. Wish me the best! Your stories and others have given me the courage to try Nardil.
peace,Shanti

I have around 12 files full of anecdotes and monographs on psych meds- there is my OCD manifesting!!!! Or probably OCPD!

I have decided to start Nardil on tues. A few more questions if you don't mind:
>
> 1) Can you smoke cigarettes on Nardil?Yes. No probs. I smoke 10 a day. But when i first started Nardil my interest in smoking went down, then it neutralised. Then when I went to 90mg I got some head spins- nothing to severe. Then when the brilliant antidepressant effect kicked in, I smoked heaps!! It was because I was always so happy!!! I smoke more when happy. But I must emphasis I am still very happy on Nardil - I just CONTROL my urges to smoke to keep it down to 10 a day.

> 2) What category is Nardil? I am planning on having a baby and found little research in this area.Category? It is a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor. I can do some research on the pregnancy bit- would u like me too? Also, would you like me to explain how it works? I will explain it in easy terms so you understand. I'm assuming you don't at the moment. I could be wrong!
> 3) Do you know the half-life of Nardil?Very short. 2-3 hours. But THE HALF LIFE OF NARDIL DOES NOT CORRELATE WITH THE DURATION OF IT'S THERAPEUTIC ACTION. Enzyme inhibition continues longer than the half life.

Ace,
I always look forward to hearing from you. It's become a habit for me to check this forum to get a posting from you and you are always right there for me. Thanks!

> Category? It is a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor. I can do some research on the pregnancy bit- would u like me too?Yeah, I know that it's a MAO Inhibitor, but I wanted to know what category it was for pregnancy, sorry I wasn't specific on that. I think it's a class C. But am not too sure. That would be so great if you could find any info in relation to pregnancy!
Also, would you like me to explain how it works? I will explain it in easy terms so you understand. I'm assuming you don't at the moment. I could be wrong!
I know it works by inhibiting, thus eventually increasing levels of NE, Dopamine, Serotonin and GABA. Am i right?

I can't believe it's that short. Even my pharmicist couldn't find that info for me. So is that why in the leafleet along w/the Nardil it says to dose 3x a day at 15mg? My psych. doc is starting me at 7.5 mg a day. I know you said to ramp up to 60 mg ASAP. So I will see how it goes. Since the half-life is so short, I should feel the side effects (hopefully not more anxiety) right away. If no side effects--then maybe I will increase the dose.More questions:
1) Do you know the peak onset of Nardil? I mean when does it hit the brain? Since it's half-life is SO short I am assuming it's onset is rather quick 1-2 hours at most.
2) Before Nardil did you try any of the SSRI's and if so what were your experiences?
3) When you were ramping up your Nardil dose did you divide your doses or did you take it all in the morning?
Last night I went to bed thinking what you told me "Nardil is on my side", Nardil is on my side". It comforted me greatly to know that if it helped you it can help me too.thanks for all your support and time,
Shanti
