Hi! I'm new to this site so bare with me. I've been on Nardil (Phenelzine) for 6 months and it has worked wonders for my social phobia & its still working well for this. But its never really helped my depression, which has recently started getting worse.
My Doctor is a Psychopharmacologist yet asking him for augmentation was a difficult task. Finally he agreed that it would be a good idea to augment. He has sugested Zispin (Mirtazepine) to augment the Nardil. I will be starting it in 3 days from now.
I would be interested if anyone knows how Zispin works, if anyone's tried this combo, or if they've even heard of this combo. Hope someone can help.

>Hi,
What sort of depression do you have? What symptoms do you have?
I take Zispin/Remeron/Avanza, it's great if you are having troubles with sleep.
Cheers,
Panda.

I have unipolar depression and have been taking Nardil for 5 weeks. Except for the insomnia, it has lifted my depression and hope it will continue to do so because I know that I can feel a lot better. Remeron has been Rxd for Nardil induced insomnia. In fact I just started Remeron a couple of days ago at 22.5mg (half of 45mg tab). Although it had helped me get to sleep, it did not keep me asleep as I awake in 1 to 2 hours. Last night I tried a full 45 mg tab and it has allowed me to sleep continuously for 5 or 6 hours which was a great improvement. As far as it helping depression, it had helped me in the past, but I was taking Prozac, Lamictal and Lithium with it. I was on this combo for the longest time and I decided it was no longer working, so I switched to Nardil. I have been on ADs for over 13 years. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

Hi! Thanks for replies. Sorry its took a while for me to reply.
Its good to know soneone has tried the Nardil/Zispin combo without any real problems. I was slightly worried about serotonin syndrome. Perhaps this only happens with SSRIs and similar meds when taken with Nardil. Anyway, I'll be starting the combo later today.
As for the question of what my symptoms are. I have very bad Social Phobia as part of what I believe is Avoidant Personality Disorder, although I haven't had the latter diagnosis. This has always been accompanied with a lingering moderate, and occasionaly severe Depression, symptoms of which include: extreme lethargy, over sleeping (12+ hrs a night), apathy, stimulant cravings (I have been a drug addict), inward thoughts and occasional suicidal thoughts. I also have various other mixed anxieties and compulsions/obsessions which come and go. This might be anything from over shopping and running up credit, to obsessive cleanliness and worrying about germs.
As mentioned in my previous post, the Nardil has wiped out around 70% of my S.P. symptoms. This has made me a new man! Before I was virtually paralised by it. I simply existed. Now I have friends, go to college, visit the pub, cinema, etc. The problem is the "flatness" I still get from the Depression wont let me enjoy much of what I now do. Lets just hope something comes from the new med.
I'll keep you updated on how I get on.
