Any MAO users have experience with this? How did it work in relation to Nardil and parnate, particularly effectiveness generally, sexual sid effect and weight gain?

>I'm taking Marplan. I take a handful of other meds, too. Nothing worked very well until I started taking a thyroid hormone. I can't say things are working well, exactly, but I'm better than I was. I'm treatment resistant--I've been through about a dozen meds.
I chose Marplan because the side effects seemed like they fell between Nardil and Parnate (e.g. Nardil can be sedating, Parnate can be stimulating).
It give me gas (a social problem, but not too bad) and I had to cut back from 50 mg. to 40 because it made me dizzy. (My blood pressure tends to be low even when I'm not medicated.)
I get sexual side effects from *everything* but it's better than with SSRIs.
No weight gain.

Thanks, Ilene. Actually, my experience with Nardil and Parnate was the reverse in that the Nardil was stimulating and the Parnate somewhat sedating - Nardil was bad for weight gain - Nardil also was frustrating in that I was absolutely sexually "inhibited" above 45 mg.
If you are so inclined, could you tell me whether you are taking the MAOs for social anxiety, anxiety in general or otherwise, and how effective the Marplan is compared to Effexor or Zoloft (if those are among the SSRIs you've tried. I'm trying to guage my own next step. Much appreciated, Phil.
