I asked this question last week but maybe it got lost amid my long-winded post. Simply put:
*** Is an anti-cholinergic drug such as an anti-spasmodic safe to take with an MAOI?***
I haven't seen any word about contraindications, but this seems strange since it appears that anti-cholinergics affect dopamine and acetylcholine. Are there *any* possible problems from taking the two together?

I don't believe it should be a problem, but you need to check and see if there is a specific contraindication with the drug you have in mind. Anticholinergics, like antihistamines, are generally safe with MAOIs because they just block receptors and do not have the same effects on monoamine activity as do stimulants and drugs that block reuptake. It's true there is an inverse relationship between acetylcholine and dopamine, but the effects from adding an anticholinergic are so pathetically weak in comparison to adding a real stimulant that I do not believe that this is worth worrying about.

I don't think there are any severely adverse reactions that emerge from combining these drugs. I have been on high dosages of Parnate and imipramine at the same time. Imipramine is a fairly potent anticholinergic drug. It is worth recognizing that an anticholinergic drug can make worse some of the side effects of the MAOIs, particularly with Nardil.
