Sublingual Selegiline/Deprenyl

Posted by rod on April 10, 2004, at 9:23:17

Does anyone know if Selegiline can pass the mucous membrane of the mouth? I guess it does, because the patch also works. So why wait for the patch, if one can baypass the gut with this method.
I have tried selegiline at 1,25 mg, swallowed, and gave me unpleasant stimulation. I guess its the conversion into amphetamines.
I will try 1,25mg again, but leave it in my mouth for, lets say, 2 minutes, and then spit out the rest. Maybe this works like the patch does, to some extent.
Or can you dissolve a taplet and make your own patch? by applying the dissolved seleg on a regulat patch? A comment from a pharmacologist would be greatly appreciated.

just an idea...

Very interesting idea. I wonder what sort of solvent you might suggest, as well as what manner of material to make a patch?

Well, I dont really suggest anything. My uneducated guess would be that one uses ordinary water (if its able to dissolve Selegiline) and a ordinary tape with a piece of an handkerchief. I am no pharmacologist and have no idea if there are some extra things needed to faciliate the transport of seleg. through the skin. Or how the actual dose administered correlates with how much one applies to the "patch".
