Hi everyone. I just wanted to ask if anyone has had similar success with taurine in the manner that I have. My little story goes as follows:
I first started taking Adderall about 8 months ago. I am up to about 80mg a day of the stuff and yet still feel depressed a lot of the time. Due to this I went to see a Naturopath doctor who told me to get on this weird vitamin regiment (high B vitamin dosage, extremely high B12) and 5-HTP. This still did not completely cure how I was feeling. I assumed that I would just feel like this the rest of my life and to deal with it. Then I started taking Taurine. Granted it was in the form of an energy drink (Jones Energy) but I feel the best I have since before I can remember.
Has anyone had any similar experiences with Taurine? Am I just crazy? Just wanted some of your opinions and or experiences. Thanks everyone!

I do't know anything about it, but if it works, stick with it!!!
Adderal is not an antidepressant. So if you ever need an antidepressant in the future, keep that in mind.

I have ADD, which I think is one of the main causes of my depression. But when I'm on Adderall all the noise I generally get bombarded with tends to dissipitate enough for me to function normally. Which is what it's supposed to do I would guess... I mean it does tend to alleviate my mood significantly, but no you are correct it is not an anti-depressant.
5-HTP is what I take for my depression technically, but I felt run down for a while which is why I started the taurine. Thank you very much for your time in responding to my post! I didn't know if anyone would look at it.
Stick with it if it works; I agree completely. Thanks again!

One comment - could be the taruine, or could be some of the other things kicking in after a delay. They always say some meds take weeks to produce "results." Don't know if there was any overlap during the options you mentioned... just a thought.
One question - wondering how much - of each - of the B-vitamins & taruine you were/are taking (e.g.: Xmg twice a day, etc.)?
One last comment - if it works, go with it! And hope it continues! Congrat's, & hope it lasts.

Hey Michael thanks a lot for your response.
Yeah I have been on Adderall for about 6 months and oddly enough the effects began to dampen after a while. I wonder whether or not this medicine leaches off of chemicals in the brain or something?
I am taking 2 different B-vitamin supplements on top of a multi. It's what a Naturopath doctor told me to do... *shrugs*. Anyways here is the breakdown:
Thiamine: 40mg
Riboflavin: 11 mg
Niacin: 140 mg
Vitamin B6: 10mg
Folic Acid: 1,200 mcg
Vitamin B12: 1,400 mcg
Biotin: 400mcg
Pantothenic Acid: 100 mgThat's not including my Multi vitamin but there ya are. As far as Taurine goes I have been taking as much as 4 grams per day. Now I am consuming it in the form of an energy drink so it is possible it could be other ingredients. But, Caffeine has always made me lax and tired before now so I know it shouldn't be this. There is also Ubiquinone(CoQ10) in the beverage so that could be helping as well... I already take 100mg of that though so I don't think it would be due to this.
Thanks a lot for your interest in my well being. I have no clue why I have been getting such positive effects, but I am one of these people that doesn't feel right being happy unless I know why and what I did to get that way... Sick really... lol. Thanks again!

Just a note regarding the adderall - may just be some tolerance building. It's supposed to happen less with adhd than usual (i.e. "normal" people).
Some adhd people find the same dose to be effective for years, whereas most people build up a tolerance to stimulants quite quickly. Hence, the addictive/abuse potential.
Btw - I don't think stims "leech" stuff... If I understand correctly they supplement (or do some of the same things as) some of the neurotransmitters do. There's more to it than just that - inhibiting reuptake of the neurotransmitters, etc., to some degree? Don't have all the details at the moment... just thought I'd mention that.
And fwiw, while adderall is a stimulant, and not technically an antidepressant, I believe stims were the first "antidepressants" discovered/used.
Other solutions/drugs were sought due to the tolerance/abuse issues. (I think that's all accurate - if not, perhaps someone else will correct it)
There's nothing wrong with trying to figure out what it is that you're doing "right" - but if you can't, don't let it bother you too much & just enjoy it while you can - hopefully from now on.
Thanks for all the info you offered - I appreciate it.
