Has anyone taken Provigil to counter AD sedation?

Posted by greywolf on March 22, 2004, at 9:07:16

Just wondering what people's experiences have been with Provigil to counter the sedating effects of SSRIs. Has anyone had any experience with this?

I have. It worked great for about three day and then it made me extremely tired. I think it may have caused some kind of neurotransmitter depletion and therefore had a paradoxical effect.

Thanks, Jaby. That's exactly the type of info I'm looking for. I don't want to propose another med to my doc unless I have reason to believe it will be effective.

Thanks again.

I tried it with an SSRI and it gave me a horrible headache, and took several days to go away.

My reaction was a combination of the previous posts. I *borrowed* some from a friend and it made me tired, fuzzy headed, (I just couldn't think) and gave me a killer headache. Basically, it did the opposite of what I heard it was supposed to do. Dexedrine worked much better for me.

sorry^^^above for Greywolf (nm)

Thanks gabbix and Theo for your contributions. Sounds like Provigil has some drawbacks going for it that aren't described as prevalent in the company literature. I'll keep this in mind because I get really bad migraines.

which "company literature" did you find? The literature accounts for all the side effects as well as the abuse potential and euphoric effects.

you should start low -- even at splitting pills into 25mg pieces {do 25mg morning and then noon or a few hours later} for a few days. Stay at 50mg for a bit and see how things go because the side effects definitely go away. If you start out at 100mg on your very first dose then you will definitely experience a big kick in the behind especially if you are not used to stimulants or are patient with side effects.

You have to give this 3-4 weeks to make some decisions about dose tinkering with your doc and 2 weeks to see if side effects improve. I had curbed appetite and slept 2 hours less a night at first but that went away.

Thanks, Psychosage. I will keep your comments in mind when I see my doc. He's a little conservative on the meds, though, so I doubt I'll convince him to go with an off-label use. No harm in trying though.
