I have been on Zoloft (50 mgs/day) since September for Depression. At the same time I also started taking Klonopin (.25 mgs/day) for depression related insomnia. Since January, I have had no sex drive what so ever. I don't ever want to have sex, and cannot orgasm when I do.
In February, my doctor and I stopped the Klonopin, and March 12th I started Wellbutrin XL (150 mgs/day) to increase my libido.Any idea on when I should see some results? Any other advice on what to do? I am 27, happily married, and want to have sex again!!!!

Theoretically, drugs that blockade serotonin 2A receptors might be more helpful for the orgasm problems. These would include Remeron, Serzone, trazodone, or perhaps even nortriptyline. All of these are sedating, and I believe you would find one or more of them helpful for your insomnia. The Wellbutrin is certainly indicated for the libido problem and has proven efficacy. There is some evidence that dopamine agonists (bromocriptine, Mirapex, etc.) may also be helpful for hypoactive sexual desire, but my opinion is that these have more side effects than does Wellbutrin.Todd

> ToddThanks for your fast reply. I forgot to mention that I am hoping to start trying to conceive soon. I don't know if that makes a difference. The insomnia is pretty much gone now - esp. because I take my Zoloft at bedtime and it makes me a little sleepy. Mr DR suggested Wellbutrin because it's a Schedule B and in a worst case scenario, I could continue it while PG.
Thanks :)

I hope the Wellbutrin works for you. I took it 6 months (SR version then XL version) even with an SSRI and actually felt better once I quit the Wellbutrin. I took Wellbutrin by itself for a few months and sex was no problem but it didn't make me desire it and made me more depressed and more anxious, that lovely cycle of trial and error.

Oops - weird board thing. I have never heard of that drug before, but when I looked it up it seemed pretty heavy duty. And the diet restrictions were strict - no cheese, no alcohol, no chocolate, no caffeine. I mean, in a perfect word I would love to eat like that, but ... wow!
Also, it said that insomnia was a common effect. I don't know if that would work, since I was being treated for depression related insomnia. I remember the year that I didn't sleep, and it SUCKED!
