Xanax? Holy crap, still knocked out ...

Posted by AMD on March 17, 2004, at 17:04:48

Folks,

I decided to 'self medicate' last night by taking four Xanax .5 mg pills to help with some extreme anxiety I'd been feeling over a particular obsessiveness of late.

Well, I took then around midnight -- and slept right through my alarm today, waking up a 1:30 p.m.! Oops! Late for work. Got up, felt dazed, almost clumsy, and managed to get to work an hour later.

Now I'm here, and I feel hmm... very sleepy, tired, ready for bed already.

How long is this going to last? It's a bit disturbing. Perhaps a lower dose would have sufficed. Is taking 2 mg at once dangerous? (This is only the first time I'd take the drug.)

Thanks

It seems like you have taken too much xanax. Try with a lower dose. For me 0,125 mg is enough.

Interestingly, as it's wearing off, I am feeling a little more calm. Even able to concentrate a bit better. That's a nice plus, because when I'm manic and/or obsessining, I can't focus on a damn thing!

Hi AMD,

If you've never taken Xanax before, 2 mgs is a hefty dose. It's a potent medication and I've found that .25 mgs is very helpful on nights when I'm having extreme anxiety. Most people who take 2 mgs work their way up to that dose, and very few people take more than that.

You should feel normal again tomorrow. The length of time it lasts varies from person to person. I think the average is about 8 hrs. But you might feel a little out of it even after it's left your system because you've thrown your body through a loop.

Overall, Xanax is a very safe drug (although there are definately a few people who have had bad experiences with it) and I don't think you did any damage by taking as much as you did. Just take less next time you decide to have Xanax.

K.
