I am curious as to what a conscious seizure is like without loss of awareness. I wonder if I have had some that I really did not understand. They may have been substance induced, but there are other times when I was stone-cold sober at that moment and the weeks preceding.
I have had hallucinations, metallic taste, temporary blackout {literal and not memory} excessive fear {momentary in reference to nothing}, what I call brain jolts {shifting headache like pain that is not a typical headache} I have also had night terrors a plenty, but I know that they do not necessarily relate to epilepsy.
I already take Trileptal, but I am more curious about this disease because I have close friends with it too. I haven't had most of those aforementioned symptoms recently or most of my life before my moods began to cycle in my late teens early 20s.

I've had med-induced petit mal seizures ... basically, you don't feel it happening ... you don't feel like you're going to faint ... its just like one second you're ok, and then BAM! You suddenly "wake up" in the middle of doing something ... aware of what happened before the seizure ... but knowing that you're missing a part but you don't know how long. In my case it also made me drop whatever I was holding but I wouldn't fall.
I guess the best analogy would be if you take one of those old movies that are on a tape thigny, cut off a few frames and then tape the ends back up. You end up with like two parts that don't quite connect properly ...
Either that or sort of the feeling that someone is constantly pushing the "reset" button on your brain...

You of course don't have to say here, but do you take any other prescription drugs like antidepressants? Or any natural depression remedies, for instance 5htp. I was just wondering about serotonin syndrome...
It seems odd that this is also happening to your friends. This should be a rare occurance, not a common thing. Do you and your friends share a past drug history, either prescription or non-prescription (or natural supplement)? Again, you don't have to answer.
This really concerns me. I hope you find the cause soon!

I would ask your primary care physician for a referral to a neurologist. The neurologist can then decide whether you need an EEG or MRI to screen for various problems.
You probably don't have a brain tumor--but there is always that possibility, or some other neurological disorder. I had (and have) similar symptoms as you and I have a brain tumor. My symptoms are much improved after most of the tumor was removed.
When these symptoms start in adulthood (or late adolescence) there is often a lesion causing them.
These symptoms are serious, and they demand a serious medical/neurological workup. Good luck.

I agree get tested by a neurologist, I think the metallic taste/blacking out might be telling but you'll never know unless you get tested...maybe you have already. A sleep-deprived eeg is a more accurate indicator of epileptiform activity.
I was misdiagnosed for decades but one of the things that tipped my drs. off was the fact that I smelled bizarre odors prior to my attacks that others around me didn't smell.
Some people have a treatment-resistant epilepsy and need surgery to remove the lesions that are causing the problem. I'm guessing that's why your med is not controlling this?

sometimes I smell this awful smell that is like toilet water, or at least that's how I describe it. It's doesn't smell like human waste, but it has this nasty aspect to it as if I were smelling something that is kept clean by harsh chemicals. My psychotic symptoms stem from meth abuse, but there are these symptoms that go beyond the typical positive {hallucinations} and negative {withdrawn, poverty of speech} of schizophrenia.
I wonder if I just sparked so much electrical activity in my brain that even after I ended my short stint with drug abuse that all that was needed was some kindling and my brain could light up again, and apparently, too much.
It just seems more physiological than simply bizarre thoughts, images, or smells. I guess I should investigate more.
Thanks for your help.
