i would like to split wellbutrin 100 mg tablets into 2 since it is too strong for me to start with. I like wellbutrin and want to continue taking it but want to start off at a lower dosage. the lowest dosage they have is 75 mg which might still be too strong. thanks!

>>My own pdoc suggested that i purchase a "pillcutter" (available at all drugstores) for about $3-->5.00 . It worked for me!

Just to clarify: You can definitely split the immediate release version (you can tell that one cuz it won't say "sr" or "xr" on it).
You probably want to ask your pharmacist or ANY pharmacist, have your pill jar in hand, cuz which type makes a difference. SR or XR definitely ask a pharmacist. You really don't want too much in your system, you'll get twitchy and dizzy and headachy, not fun. :/

I've been fine splitting 100 XR (the lowest I can get here) and taking 1/2 - 3/4 (50-75 mg). I've no experience with SR form but expect it would be similar. At that dose, side effects are unlkely to be increased much - for me, reduced if anything. Consult your Dr. or pharmacist if you have ever had a seizure or have any doubts.
BTW, use splits (of _any_ coated pill) within 24 hr. if possible as some meds deteriorate rapidly without their coating.

It's perfectly safe to split the SR version (but difficult -- you need a pill-cutter, available from any drugstore for 2-3 $). I checked this with both the manufacturer and my pdoc.
This is the end of the thread.
