My paindoc refused to rx me Buprenorphine. I figured that since I was wanting to self detox from Oxy that I might as well kill two birds with one stone. I am in the middle of switching AD's and figured Bupe would be the perfect chose. My pain doc got all worked up and said he was not going to detox me from one opiate and then prescribe another, Bupe. When I asked him about it being rx as AD, he got even more worked up. Anyway I still got what I wanted and that was to self detox from oxy by decreasing 1 oxy tab for two weeks and another one for another two weeks until I run out of Oxy. Since I tolerated Codeine so well for over 7 years, I would replace the Oxy tab with the Codeine. I know that is also an opiate but is lesser of two evils. One thing this pain doc made clear was he was not going to rx Buprenorphine under any circumstances! Excuse me for living!!
