I'm currently taking the lowest dosage of Seroquil (25mgs) as a sleep aid. It's base chemical is called Quetiapine (sp?) and it's an antipsychotic sedative. This I know; and I'm under the impression (though I don't know for sure) that it's an SSRI.
However, I'm also taking Phentermenedrine (sp) as a diet aid and I've been informed that this is an MAOI. I was told that SSRI's and MAOI's don't mix and it could mess me up somehow.
Can someone please explain to me what the difference between SSRI's and MAOI's is and how they interact?
Cheers,
Lo

> LoIt's true that SSRIs and MAOIs don't mix, but antipsychotics are not SSRIs. SSRIs are antidepressants such as Prozac and Celexa. You are not taking an SSRI.
You are not taking an MAOI, either. MAOIs are a class of antidepressants and antianxiety drugs that are unrelated to what you are taking. They are not widely prescribed because they interact with a number of foods and other drugs, including diet aids.
