I was wondering if anyone out there could help me with this. I'm not sure what direction to turn in for an answer. I have dealt with major boughts of depression since my teen years. I am now 27 year old female. Mostly had probs with the depression and a lot of crying, being overly sensitive and taking everything personal. I also experienced an inability to be patient or to stay "stable". There were times that I would feel "normal" and life would be fine. No real big ups at all just really even. Then I would always wonder how long will this possibly last before I crash again. It was just a cycle I was growing accustomed to.
Well I never did anything about the depression, I didn't know what options I had. Until recently my gynecologist put me on Wellbutrin. Well that began to help me immensely. So I went and visited my general Doctor. I felt like I had woke up a little bit so I could begin to deal with the other factors in my life. (I also had a lot of anxiety.) So he and I have been colaborating for the past 4 months to get me some other meds to help me out. First I was on Zyprexa, which did little for me except I wasn't as crabby. Now I am on Lexapro and having wonderful results. So 300mg of Wellbutrin daily and 10 mg of Lexapro daily. I am so glad that I have found this combo and it's been so positive for me. However, I know that if a bipolar takes two antidepressants it can throw them into mania. But I know I'm not manic. I have tried to go to a pdoc to get a psych eval and see what specifically my problem was. He wasn't much help, I actually ended leaving crying my eyes out. He said I was bipolar. Previous to that I had a counselor tell me he thought I was cyclothimic. But I have no idea. I think I am just plain imbalanced and needed some medical help straightening out. Does anyone out there know what my disorder might be? Any feedback or experiences would be so helpful. I just feel like if I know what I am up against and am educated about it I might be able to get better and quicker help as I need it throughout my life. Thank you for any help or response. You all have been a great help to me in the past.

I too have been diagnosed as BiPolar II - rapid cycling between manic and depressive episodes. My diagnosis was finally made after a major depressive attack - lost my job, couldn't stop crying, took the whole world very personally. For me, the manic side presented as me feeling great once in a while, except my temper would be fierce. Basically I would feel impatient with others and be prone to outbursts. I have been on 4 different pyschotropic medications. Presently on effexor xr, buspar, and xanax for anxiety - a different problem!
I would recommend seeing a p-doc and work very closely with him/her to get the choice of medication right. I also keep a daily journal of my symptoms to see if I'm feeling better or worse. (For me it's the "can't see the forest for the trees" otherwise.) I had tried getting treatment from my general practioner, but as it became clear that med after med was not right for me, I decided to find a psychiatrist AND a therapist. It has been the right combination for me. Good luck.
This is the end of the thread.
