About 12 months ago, I read in a national newspaper about a new "anti-depressant patch", with some very good results.
Basically, its a transdermal patch, which is worn on the skin, and feeds the MAO inhibitor Selegiline through the skin into the blood stream.
The result being an MAOI anti-depressant drug without the dietary restrictions.
Does anyone know when this may be released???

Not anytime soon. It was rejected by the FDA. I can't remember when though. Turns out it wasn't delivering enough of the med to the system. You might want to do an "MAOI PATCH" search on psycho-babble and I am sure you will find some of the discussion there.

I should have added that the tests are still going on though because MEDLINE has an article in Feb 2003. There was no indication though about when it might be approved.Below is one of the discussions here on PB in 2002 when the FDA did not approve the new patch.

I was following it for a while and remember some of the testing showing the patch didn't work hardly at all. I don't know if that meant the Pharm company was going back to the drawing board or dropping the patch idea.

from a p-doc "in-the know" writing to a friend a month or so ago...
"As it turns out, I talked to my contact person this morning. He believes it
very likely that the selegiline patch will be approved by the FDA in
February and will be on the market in 2005. Of course, one cannot absolutely
count on any timeline (or anything at all, for that matter) when the FDA is
involved. I'm told that the data look very promising."
