seligiline (sp) and amineptine gone forever?

Posted by shar on December 15, 2003, at 23:16:53

These meds look so promising in the research lit, and so unavailable. Is it true they're very hard to get now, especially amineptine?

Thanks,
Shar

If you are in the USA it is extremely unlikely they will ever be available (or any effective dopaminergic drug, for that matter). In the case of amineptine, the FDA had it out so bad for this drug (they heard it can cause spontaneous orgasms) they even persuaded (probably with tax dollars) its manufacturer to drop it entirely.

No problem for me to get selegiline. My pharmacy filled it on the spot. I don't know about the availability of amineptine because I've never tried it. I'm in the U.S. in the northeast.

Yes, selegiline is FDA approved for Parkinson's IIRC.

I live in the Northwest - I am taking amineptine- I won't say it is great, have not been at recommended dose very long - A little agitating sometimes - take at morning and noon - available, but grey market - just search and you will find the source if you are like me, and just had to try it. Liver toxicity, as with some other meds, is a noted concern. Teffom

You may not want to answer....

do you have Parkinson's? Or did your doc prescibe it for depression?

What brand name does it have?

Your answer was very encouraging!

Wow, I am amazed! I could not even find it (amineptine) on the grey or dark grey market!! And, I'm somewhat familiar with overseas pharmacies.

Well, I am encouraged by your answer! Thanks!

Shar - Search and you will find the Survector Source - Survector is the name still used for Amineptine, as by the original French pharmaceutical co. Servier - Still being produced somewhere in Brazil - I cannot find a source in Brazil, or anywhere is South America - still looking, but someone here has, and like I said it is grey market here, and if you search you will find the Source. Good luck, Teffom

Hi Shar,

It's for depression. In lieu of one of the standard (and probably more effecive) MAOIs. It hasn't quite brought me to the heights of wonderfulness that ACE experiences with Nardil. But I do think it's useful in lifting my sluggish, anergic depression. It may be worth a try for you.

You know, I can't recall the brand name offhand. Eldepryl maybe?? In any case, you can get generic.

Good luck.
