Posted by AndyD on November 19, 2003, at 17:26:58

Hey all,

Klonopin working great, but went to pdoc today and he now wants me to take Zoloft because I feel kinda lethargic? Sounds like a bad idea to me...lethargic isnt bad after being freaked out anxious for 10 years!! What do ya'll think. All the bad rap on Zoloft has me scared to death.

Thanks,
Andy

You are going to find bad raps on EVERY drug mentioned here. This place generally, is a draw for people having med problems. If I remember correctly, it took you a long time to decide to give Klonopin a try, right? Look how that's worked for you. I, too was on strictly Klonopin for 1 1/2 years for anxiety. I now am dealing with depression and like you, I was scared to death to take any other drug, based alot on info here. I'm on a Wellbutrin trial and as far as those things go, I'm doing pretty well with hopes for continued improvement.
Unfortunately, you will never know until you try. You have to make a decision you are comfortable with. Good Luck.

I can understand that you may feel scared to take it, I think everyone feals a little scared when they first take their new med's, i was terrified, but klon isnt a long term answer an ssri is a longterm answer for your problems, i can guarentee you that when you have taken it you will start to feel alot better, i took zoloft for a few mnths and it worked wonders for me, i was terrified of it as the med before that was bad for me, and i swore i wouldnt touch any more ever again.. For me now i take my meds just before i am going to bed, so i dont panick as that what you may end uo doing having ''negative thoughts'' . plse give them ago, your doctor wouldnt of given them to you otherwise, you will be just fine, post on here daily everytime you have taken it, thats what this board is here for.

Hope all works well..

Love Donna

Y ou guys make me smile, hell if we all lived closer, say in Panicville and we could all set around and take our Meds together...ya the perfect world. Anyway, the pdoc said to take only 25mg of Zoloft...even after the trial 1 week, he says he wanted to keep me on a low dose. Anyone else doing that. I guess I am just scared because of all the "I could handel it until I took the SSRI, now I feel like I cant get back in control" Thats a little scary.

Andy,

Please do think about a trial of an AD. Not all stories are of the horror variety. I will admit the start ups can be rough, but sticking around until something kicks in is worth it. You may be doing the best thing you could do for yourself and you won't know until you try. Many success stories are in the "real world" with AD's. I know someone on Zoloft and it was and is great for them.
It's OK to be scared and apprehensive - I would worry about myself if I didn't have those feelings.
I do wish you good luck.
Kelly

I couldn't tolerate Zoloft, but I know others who have done very well with it. The key with nearly all of these meds is to start with a very small amount, see how you react, and work up gradually. Don't let doctors move you to a high dose quickly, and if your reaction is negative after a decent trial, insist on moving on to another med. There are so many treatments out there that you're bound to find a med (or combination) that works for you -- it may just take some time. But, it's definitely worth the trial and error.
