Hi
Just a question for anyone eho might know.

Are continouus vocal sounds that are made as an attempt to check if one's voice is still there, a vocal tic.
or is it just one of the ocd type symptoms.
thanks

I would say it was an OCD symptom since what you described is the classic "checking ritual," just to, "make sure." Have you been to a psychiatrist. It could be Tourettes Syndrome, but I would say OCD. I have OCD and it sounds similar to my situation.

Some neuropsychs claim that tics and obsessions may be different manifestations of the same thing. In effect, a tic being a physical obsession or compulsion, or OCD being almost akin to a "mental tic." Having Tourette with OCD myself, I have to agree.

But if you really want to whittle it down, there are some earmarks of tics vs. obsessions. Most notable is what happens when the activity is suppressed. In OCD if the activity is suppressed, you still feel the need to do it and may feel agitated, but the need to do it is not worsened. If a tic is suppressed however, there is usually a physical sensation that makes it increasingly difficult not to tic, and the ticcing will become more and more uncontrollable and "explosive."

Whatever it is, you might want to keep an eye on it and report it to your doctor. Especially if it appeared or worsened suddenly, particularly after an illness, change in medication, or if you have other tics or habits.
