When I was in the hospital they gave me something to make me eat. It was a blue and white capsule. Could it have been Geodon? I cannot remember. My appetite has taken a major downhill slide and if I can remember what it was I may call my p-doc and request a dx for some until I can eat on my own. Any info would be great. Thanks.

Sura...
I have been on the same meds for a while now and haven't had the appetite prob until lately. I think it is because of a sweep of depression I am experiencing. The meds I am on now are
Lamictal,Topamax,Lexapro,Ativan,Vistaril, Synthroid and Clonidine.I have been eating very little and purging when I do. Whatever it was I took in the hospital made me eat and helped with the purging. I wish I could remember what it was.
No luck looking in my chart. I have been in the hospital so many times and I don't remember when it was or which hospital it was.

Whenever I get upset, I stop eating. My doctor gave me an rx for 4mg of Periactin. It doesn't really make me hungry, it just makes it easier to eat food, if that makes any sense....

zyprexa, seroquel and remeron all made me feel very hungry. good luck. incidentally, even at very low doses the zyprexa and seroquel did this. more so on the zyprexa.

I went off the Seroquel about a month ago. Maybe this is what happened. I stopped not eating because I didn't have the Seroquel to make me hungry. Then because I am not eating I feel depressed. No energy.
I may try the Periactin...or maybe go back on the Seroquel. My P-doc keeps mentioning Abilify to replace the Seroquel. I am going to do something. Thanks to the "Dr. Bob Med Sleuths". I do believe you have solved one more case.
Maybe it isn't just depression. It's a change of appetite from a med change.

Yeah, Periactin's pretty good. It's just an antihistamine, and I haven't noticed any side effects from it. I take Lexapro and Adderall with it, and it does really help me eat. When I told my doctor about my weight loss, he said there were a number of alternatives to help...
There's lots of hope!

-------I second the Remeron suggestion. I tried to gain a few pounds for about a year with no success. I weighed 165 many years ago, hit a long, grim depression, and eventually sank to 120. One month on Remeron and I gained 8lbs, and have currently gone up to 136. Not too shabby.

Proxac, Paxil, Seroquel, and Zyprexa have all increased my appetite.
Maybe you can call the hospital where you were admitted and get a hold of the attending physician find out what he/she gave you (the blue and white capsule), if you're not sure.
Really easy and helpful for you:-)Take care.

-------------I'm on 30mg for about 2 months now. The first week you take it, it does make you incredibly sleepy, but if you just take it an hour before bedtime, you sleep like a stone and don't feel tired upon waking.
Remeron is known as a drug that increases weight, though it's hard to say if it's because it increased my appetite, or because it fully alleviated my nasty IBS symptoms (food would shoot through me way too quickly). If remeron were a person, I'd hoist him up on my shoulders and parade him around. Lookit him! Whatta guy.

I must agree. Marijuana is the best appetite stimulant. Xyrem being the second one. Of all the anti-depressants I've heard that Remeron is pretty good appetite stimulator.
