Hi,
I'm new to this board, but I have an 8 yr. history with SSRI's. Started out on Prozac, on it for ~3mos. Stopped working and made me too jittery and sleepless. Switched to Paxil took for ~2yrs - stopped working. Switched to Celexa 20mg which was working great for 5 yrs except my husband's employer switched insurance companies and the new company considers Celexa non-formulary so I've now been taking 10mg Lexapro for ~3wks and I'm VERY irritable and exhausted all the time.
My issue is that if Lexapro is essentially the "same" drug with the lesser active isomer removed, why am I now having these awful side effects? Is this common? Has anyone else experienced this from celexa to lexapro?
Thanks!

Hi Kris,
Welcome to the board. I have had a similar experience with Lexapro. I am diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder and Depression. Celexa was my first AD/SSRI and it really started working well within two weeks for me. I really started to feel normal again with Celexa. I did well for a while and then it either pooped out or was effected by my pot smoking. I no long smoke pot, because I want to get better without having to self-medicate. I started taking 10 mg of Lexapro for 2 months and I never really felt right. I was anxious, tired, and had bad stomach problems. I felt totally out of it. Now I am in between insurance companies and had to take some old Celexa, instead of my lexapro. I am starting to feel better again. It's totally confusing because Lexapro is supposed to be newer, better, and with less side effects.Hang in there, Kris, we'll figure it out.
