I have GAD and OCD. I have been on almost every medication out there, but nothing really works. I have taken all the SSRI's but Luvox is the only one I found that works for my OCD. I have also takin many benzo's and Tranxene worked for a while but not really anymore. Now, my p-doc says that my GAD could be helped by adding Seroquel to my Luvox
Does anyone have any experience with Seroquel and anxiety?

Antipsychotics should be an absolute last resort for non-psychotic patients due to the extremely high probability of both diabetes and involuntary movement disorders. I'd suggest you try Effexor, BuSpar, Remeron, Serzone, tricyclics, Nardil, Parnate, Gabitril, Neurontin, lithium, Depakote, Trileptal... any one of those you haven't tried yet. Klonopin (clonazepam) or Xanax XR (extended-release alprazolam) would really be best in my opinion, even if just used temporarily until you find something else useful.
Also, be sure you're supplementing yourself adequately -- multinutrient supplements, B-complex vitamins, vitamin C, and vitamin E are extremely important. Niacinamide, magnesium, inositol and thiamine can be great for anxiety, and then there are also of course herbal products (i.e. kava, valerian, Californian poppy, passion flower). L-tryptophan or 5-HTP could help tremendously as well.
As I said though, antipsychotics are absolutely not indicated in a case such as you described. With all the horrifying side effects, I'd personally be quite suspicious of any doctor who would suggest such a thing for a non-psychotic.

Yes. I've been prescribed it for sleep/help with mood stabilization/agitation & anxiety. I've only needed to use it on a sporadic basis, and have only needed 6-12 mg. I have found it very helpful. It packs a bigger punch than clonazepam, so it was especially helpful on days when the clonazepam just couldn't cut it. I personally had no side effects other than being drowsy if I took more than necessary.

Hi,
Just wanted to let you know that I take Seroquel as a mood stabilizer/sleep med/anxiety med and it works great for me with no side effects. I take 100mg at breakfast and lunch, plus I can take another 100mg whenever I need it, and 600mg at bedtime. This has worked wonders for me for over a year now.
Best of luck,
Dane =)

I found that Seroquel made me really dopey and so do all the benzodiazpans (Urbanol, Xanax, etc).
Everything has side-effects - stick with it and see how it works for you. I'm trying Topamax at the moment for the same problems as you (plus I have depression and panic disorder).
All these drugs are scary - you have to decide on what the acceptable level of discomfort is for you personally. I am also going to start cognative behavioural therapy, which is supposed to be excellent for the GAD and the OCD.
Nothing in life is without risk, but personally, given that I still get in my car every day to drive to work, which is about the most (statistically) dangerous thing any of us will ever do, I prefer to take something to help me function than to live with the problems my mental illnesses bring to every aspect of my life.
Good luck!

Seroquel perscribed for anxiety gave me a kind of pill-induced narcolepsy that turned the events that i was anxious about into disasters.
It was great for taking at night when i couldn't sleep. Because i was freaked out over the damage that the day's disaster caused.
And that nearly turned me into a raving psycho.

i am bipolar, have ptsd, anxiety disoder, bpd, nd huge sleeping problems. i too have tried them all: prozac, paxil, lexapro, celexa, trazadone, zyprexa, risperdal. now i take 50mgs of zoloft and 50mgs of seroquel and i feel so much better. sleep comes much more easily too. i amm looking for a "rescue" med for panic attacks though. my pdoc does not believe in xanax which i think is strange. this combo of meds has made me more able to function everyday. good luck with it.
