I just started Effexor about 3 weeks ago and for about a week now have been up on 75 mg from 37.5. I don't know if it's all in my head or not, but I swear I am losing a lot of my hair. Has anyone had an experience like this with Effexor XR? I have looked at some of the websites containing information about this med and have not seen hair loss listed as a common side effect upon taking it. So maybe it's due to something else, but I haven't really changed anything recently that would cause hair to fall out. My stress levels aren't up any more than normal, I get plenty of iron and protein, I keep my hair clean, etc. I just can't seem to contribute it to anything else. ANyone else had this happen after starting Effexor???????

Nothing else has change as far as my diet, medications, etc. I didn't have this problem when I was taking paxil for almost two years. I've noticed my hair thinning 6-9 months after taking effexor xr. I've just decided to go to google and look under " does effexor cause hair loss" and found your message. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this. Now I know to switch back to paxil or lower my effexor xr back to 37.5 I didn't notice any changes as far as severe thinning in my hair when I took effexor 37.5 for three months either.

I read the literature that came with Effexor, and alopecia is listed as an infrequent side effect. It's in the details listed in paragraph form under 'Skin and appendages', middle panel on the back side about halfway down the page.
