I have been depressed for over 9 years and seeking treatment for over 3 years and in all the time I have been trying to find some sort of support network from someone who has been there. I have asked several of my doctors if there are any resources on the Web and my current Psych actually told me that it would do more harm than good. I live in a small town and there are no sort of support groups and if there are I would not be able to go to one cause my depression in my families dirty little secret....I am not allowed to talk about it with other people...my mother and a couple of my friends know about it and one of my uncles...
well visiting this site has helped me realize that I am not the only one with these same problems...and for some reason that was a HUGE help...I found this list while doing a search for Lexpro...and the first thing I found was people in love with their therapist...I had the most wonderful therapist in the world...been though the same thing as me...and I would love going to therapy and we weould sit and talk for hours and and go over my sessions...and I started to get feelings so I stopped going cause I thought I was a freak and that I was crazier than I thought...
Jeez I am babbling way too much...just glad to know this list is here

In reply to Why did my doctor say there were no good Sites????, posted by jc12578 on August 21, 2003, at 8:48:10
First of all, welcome to Babble. :-)
You know, a lot of doctors aren't really aware that sites like this exist. Or they *are*, but they don't know about this one in particular, which is so well moderated, thanks to Dr. Bob :-). The latter sounds like the case with your doctor -- if I were a physician, the idea of a forum like this would probably scare me too if I just thought it was filled with a bunch of psychiatric patients running amok, lol. But because of the civility policies here which are so well-enforced, these forums definitely (IMHO) deserve the title of "safehaven".
Just one more thing, since you're new -- there are several different message boards here. Psycho-Babble (the one you posted on) is solely for discussion of medication-related issues. No biggie though, Dr. Bob or someone else will just have this redirected to Psycho-Social-Babble, I'm pretty sure, which is the board just for talking about anything and everything not related to medication, faith, psychological counseling, or administration of the site. So in all, there are five main boards here -- Psycho-Babble (medications), Psychological-Babble (therapy/counseling), Psycho-Babble-Faith (faith-related issues), Psycho-Babble Administration (questions, comments, and suggestions about the administration of the site), and Psycho-Social-Babble (just for BS'ing :-).
Once again, welcome! I'm sure you'll find it a very friendly place and I hope you'll stick around. :-)
This is the end of the thread.
