Klonopin/Lamictal Help--new pdoc

Posted by silmarilone on August 16, 2003, at 9:25:33

Hi, I have a new pdoc who says my Wellbutrin and Klonopin are 'bad' drugs and wants me to stop the wellbutrin and start lamictal. He also hinted at plans to stop the klonopin gradually. Klonopin works VERY WELL for me expecially for impulse control and anxiety. I've been using it safely for a few years. Should I just tell him I want to stay on it? He seems contemptuous of my former pdoc for giving it to me, even though I've tried every drug in the book, and this one works best with fewest side effects. Do I NEED lamictal? Is it used WITH klonopin or is he trying to switch me? I don't want to use a more unsafe/side effect drug like lamictal when klonopin works just fine.

Hey there *wink wink* I am on Lamictal and I think it is great!!! I started very, very slowly like 25 mg every other day for 2 weeks and now I take 25mg every day for another 2 weeks then finally 50mg a day for another 2 weeks then go from there. I went on Wellbutrin for about 2 days-then my doc took me off because of the seizure side effect.
I feel bad for you because I know--Klonopin is a great med-it helps me tremendously!!! I'm glad it helps you too. Can you just ask your doc if you can stay on it and tell him/her what you say about it her in your post??? I would :-)
I use Lamictal WITH Klonopin-works for me-I hope you give it a try and better yet-I hope it works but remember-t i m e-be patient, I really wish you the best!!! The best bet would to be to ask yourself-first are you bipolar? Do you think that maybe Lamictal can help stabilize your moods if so?
All the best to you always!!!
