Wellbutrin

Posted by madpoet11 on August 8, 2003, at 14:26:11

Hello,
I am new to Wellbutrin and just wanted to know some positives and negatives from those who are on it. I finally was able to get rid of Effexor but now I feel my anxieties even more. I believe the Wellbutrin is making them worse also. I need to get on another medication along with Wellbutrin to help with my anxieties. I will be going to my doctor soon but in the mean time, what are some good meds for anxieties? Ive also been suffering from obsessive thoughts for a long time and recently they have gotten much worse. Im always getting intrusive and irrational thoughts which are interfering strongly with my life. Please let me know. Thank you.

Hi,

I'm afraid I don't know much about anxiety, but since I've just gone on Wellbutrin, I know it's increasing that type of effect in me (plus anger/irritation). It might not be the best bet for someone who deals with anxiety issues. I've only been on it a month, though. Some other posters should be able to tell you if the anxiety issues subside a little with extended use.

Good luck!

Good question. I've been on Wellbutrin for about 7 years. It usually controls my depression well, but it does nothing for my anxiety. I've had panic attacks in the past, but mostly I've been dealing with generalized anxiety. I've tried the following meds in addition to Wellbutrin in order to control anxiety:
*Paxil - didn't do anything for my anxiety, sexual side effects
*Prozac - did nothing for anxiety
*imipramine - partially controlled anxiety, stayed on this med for over a year, persistant high blood levels even with low dose, went off of it because it gave me dry mouth and I was getting braces
*Serzone - partially controlled anxiety, no side effects after the initial break-in period, went off of it because I was getting refractive eye surgery and thought it may be causing my tear test scores to be low (it turned out not to be the culprit)
*Effexor - wonderful medication for a while after the initial break-in period, but caused intolerable insomnia and daytime fatigue. Just went off this med two days ago.

I'm looking for something else to add to Wellbutrin now and I'm interested in seeing what others have to say about what works for them.
